5 Natural Stress-Busting Tips for Busy Moms

1. Begin a meditation practice.

Meditation is an ancient practice that can help slow down your mind, reduce anxiety, decrease stress hormone levels (including cortisol), and even improve creativity, mental clarity, and focus. Meditation triggers your brain to produce more theta and alpha waves, which are associated with relaxation and deep restfulness.

Start small. Even just 5 to 10 minutes per day can be beneficial if done consistently. To help you get started, consider using a book or app that offers guided meditations, mindfulness moments, or reminders to take a stretch, walk, or breathing breaks. Consider adding aromatherapy to your meditation sessions as well, since this can enhance the relaxing benefits.

2. Utilize tools and apps to help you organize.

So many apps, books, and other resources are available to help you organize your life! Organization—whether it’s in your home, your schedule, your finances, or even simply your pocketbook—decreases stress, saves time, improves productivity, and helps you avoid making errors which end up taking even more of your precious time away from you.

A key part of the organization is prioritization. Make a list of your most important commitments, and let everything else go. Learn the gentle art of saying no, and don’t agree to a new task or commitment simply out of a sense of commitment. If it detracts from your mental health and energy, politely pass.

3. Commit to excellent sleep.

Stress relief for women requires enough sleep Chronic fatigue can affect your ability to focus and make decisions. Insufficient sleep can also prolong or worsen stress and anxiety, increase your risk of injury, disease, or fat gain since so many important biological processes happen as we rest.

To improve your sleep, utilize so-called “sleep hygiene” strategies. Go to bed and wake up at the same time every day—this helps normalize your circadian rhythm (your body’s natural clock) and optimizes your hormones. Additionally, avoid stimulating television or social media, rich meals, and alcohol within 3 hours of bedtime. Sleep in a cool pitch dark room, and lastly, only use the bedroom for its two intended purposes (rest and romance)—leave the TV and work out of the room.

4. Add quality supplements to enhance your healthy diet.

Taking the right supplements which will address your specific nutritional insufficiencies can drastically improve your health and prevent you from falling ill in the future. We recommend multivitamins and nutrients that help re-balance the stress response, including Vitamin C, B-complex vitamins (including B5 and B6), pantothenic acid, zinc, and magnesium (the so-called relaxation mineral).

Just remember that a supplement regime is no substitute for a healthy diet. Avoid eating foods which exacerbate hormone imbalance and promote inflammation in your body, including sugar, gluten, and dairy. Focus instead on lean animal protein, veggies and fruits, healthy fats, and plenty of water to detoxify and refresh your system. This can help with fatigue, stress relief, and an overall better well being.

5. Seek out natural therapies which focus on holistic wellness.

Explore holistic and alternative therapies like massage and chiropractic which invigorate both your body and mind. Unlike conventional medicine which tends to focus on symptom management, these modalities work with your body to resolve underlying issues contributing to your symptoms so your relief is longer-lasting and more thorough. Wellness Care is a key element to combating the stresses in your life. It can help you regain your sense of control both mentally and physically.
